About Marktfest

Every August, the Stadtilmer Marktfest transforms the market square of the small town on the Ilm into a festival mile. Over decades, the festival has become an important social meeting point and is considered one of the largest town festivals in Thuringia held on a market square of this size. The 50th edition will be celebrated in 2026 – from August 21st to 23rd.

The 50th edition of the Stadtilmer Marktfest will take place from August 21st to 23rd, 2026, on the market square. Three days of festivities with music, market stalls, stage program, and abundant gastronomy will bring thousands of visitors to the small town on the Ilm. Traders and craftspeople can register with the town at [email protected].

An expanded program is being prepared for the anniversary edition. Detailed program information will be published in advance on stadtilm.com. As in previous years, a mix of market stalls, live music on the main stage, and family activities is expected.

In 2026, the Stadtilmer Marktfest celebrates its 50th edition – an anniversary that underscores the festival's significance for the small town on the Ilm river. For over fifty years, the Marktfest has evolved into a social meeting point that attracts visitors from far beyond the town limits.

Stadtilm – Ilm-Kreis

Stadtilm is located in the Ilm-Kreis district in Thuringia, in the heart of the state between Erfurt, Weimar, and Ilmenau. The small town on the Ilm, with around 7,500 inhabitants, has a compact, well-frequented town center with its market square, town hall, and historic old town – the ideal stage for a traditional town festival.
