Langewiesen — District of Ilmenau on the Rennsteig

Since the municipal reform in 2018, Langewiesen has been a district of the university and Goethe town of Ilmenau in the Ilm district (state of Thuringia). The historic town on the Rennsteig is located at the transition from the Thuringian Forest to the Schwarzatal — a region shaped by Goethe as a "holiday refuge" (the poet visited Ilmenau over 20 times). Langewiesen's tradition of market meadows dates back a long way.

One of the Most Beautiful Easter Markets in Thuringia

The Easter market in Langewiesen is considered one of the most beautiful and largest in Thuringia. Around 80 vendors, craftspeople, and artists offer their goods on the market weekend — spring flowers and Easter decorations are the focus, along with crafts made of wood, ceramics, fabric, and metal, as well as regional specialties such as Thuringian bratwurst, honey, jams, and bread from traditional bakeries in the region.

Street Stage Program and Easter Bunny

A diverse stage program will run on the street stage on both days: music groups, dance performances by local clubs, and interactive activities. The highlight for the little visitors is the "Easter Bunny Land" — an area with crafts, egg painting, and games. The Easter Bunny will personally visit the market on both days and distribute small gifts. The market is family-friendly and free to enter.
