About Vineta Festival

The Vineta Festival is one of Northern Germany's most important open-air theatres. Since 1997, the Vorpommersche Landesbühne has been telling the legend of the sunken Baltic Sea city of Vineta on the Ostseebühne Zinnowitz. The spectacle combines professional acting, choreography, pyrotechnics, laser technology, and specially composed music into a captivating theatrical experience right on the beach. In 2026, the play "Die Ewige Krone" (The Eternal Crown) is on the programme – a summer theatre for the whole family under the open sky on the island of Usedom.

The Legend of Vineta

The legendary city of Vineta is said to have once been a wealthy trading metropolis on the Baltic Sea before it sank beneath the waves. Since 1997, the Vorpommersche Landesbühne from Anklam has been bringing this legend to life on the Ostseebühne Zinnowitz. The Vineta Festival has become one of Northern Germany's most significant open-air theatres, attracting numerous visitors to the island of Usedom every summer.

A Spectacle for the Senses

The production combines professional acting with choreography, live music, pyrotechnics, and laser technology. Specially composed music accompanies the plot, which sheds new light on the Vineta legend each year. The ensemble of the Vorpommersche Landesbühne is supplemented by students from the Vorpommern Theatre Academy, resulting in over twenty performers on stage.

"Die Ewige Krone" – The Story in 2026

For the 2026 season, the play is titled "Die Ewige Krone" (The Eternal Crown). King Rekar is celebrating his tenth anniversary on the throne, and the legendary city is preparing a magnificent festival. However, tensions simmer beneath the celebrations: Queen Lumia consolidates her power, secrets come to light, and the characters face moral decisions that could change everything.

Open-Air Theatre on the Beach

The Ostseebühne Zinnowitz is located directly by the sea in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. Performances take place at sunset – the natural backdrop of the beach and the Baltic Sea merges with the stage action to create a unique theatrical experience. The festival is a cultural highlight of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
