Northern Germany's grand open-air theatre on the Baltic Sea stage
The legendary city of Vineta is said to have once been a wealthy trading metropolis on the Baltic Sea before it sank beneath the waves. Since 1997, the Vorpommersche Landesbühne from Anklam has been bringing this legend to life on the Ostseebühne Zinnowitz. The Vineta Festival has become one of Northern Germany's most significant open-air theatres, attracting numerous visitors to the island of Usedom every summer.
The production combines professional acting with choreography, live music, pyrotechnics, and laser technology. Specially composed music accompanies the plot, which sheds new light on the Vineta legend each year. The ensemble of the Vorpommersche Landesbühne is supplemented by students from the Vorpommern Theatre Academy, resulting in over twenty performers on stage.
For the 2026 season, the play is titled "Die Ewige Krone" (The Eternal Crown). King Rekar is celebrating his tenth anniversary on the throne, and the legendary city is preparing a magnificent festival. However, tensions simmer beneath the celebrations: Queen Lumia consolidates her power, secrets come to light, and the characters face moral decisions that could change everything.
The Ostseebühne Zinnowitz is located directly by the sea in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. Performances take place at sunset – the natural backdrop of the beach and the Baltic Sea merges with the stage action to create a unique theatrical experience. The festival is a cultural highlight of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
