Traditional autumn fair with Michaelis Market in Sohren near Frankfurt-Hahn
Sohren is a municipality with just under 1,900 inhabitants in the western Hunsrück. The town is primarily known for the Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, just a few kilometers away, whose ICAO code “EDFH” refers to the districts of Sohren and Lautzenhausen. Despite its proximity to the airport, Sohren has retained its rural character and vibrant club life – the Michaeliskirmes is an expression of this intact village culture.
The fair is named after St. Michael, whose feast day is on September 29th. Fairs whose dates are based on patron saints are widespread in the predominantly Catholic Hunsrück and Eifel regions. The fair is organized by the Musikverein Sohren, which simultaneously preserves tradition and secures club financing.
The schedule follows the classic Hunsrück fair pattern: tapping of the first keg with the mayor and the music association's board, several days with showmen and market vendors in the town center, catering in the festival tent by the music association, and an evening stage program with music. The Michaelismarkt additionally offers general market goods, household items, clothing, and regional specialties.
Characteristic is the close integration with club life: The Musikverein Sohren performs several concerts itself, invites friendly clubs, and uses the fair as its most important source of income for the year. For the residents of Sohren, the Michaeliskirmes is the social highlight of the autumn.
The Michaeliskirmes 2026 continues the long-standing tradition of the Sohren festival calendar. The music association, as the organizer, manages the festival tent, invites friendly clubs, and shapes the musical program. Showmen and market vendors will animate the town center.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years: tapping of the first keg on the opening evening, multi-day fair and market operations, festival tent program with concerts and dance music, and a Sunday morning pint.
Hunsrück specialties in the festival tent of the Musikverein. Bratwurst, Spießbraten (roast pork), Reibekuchen (potato pancakes), fries. Draft beer, regional wines.
The exact program and date for 2026 will be published by the Musikverein Sohren in the summer. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years.
