Three Days of Festival Mile — and a Leap into the Past

Frankenberg in Mittelsachsen is celebrating its classic Stadtfest (city festival) again in 2026 — this time under the tongue-in-cheek motto «Back to Stadtfest Frankenberg». From June 12 to 14, Frankenberger Kultur gGmbH will transform the city center into a continuous festival mile with stages, a market, showmen, and themed highlights. As the title suggests, the festival subtly references the cult film «Back to the Future» — with a real DeLorean DMC-12 as a photo highlight on Saturday and Sunday.

DeLorean, Framo-Barkas, and Mascots — The Themed Highlights

Three program points make the 2026 festival weekend special: Firstly, the authentic DeLorean from the famous film series — exhibited in the city center on Saturday and Sunday, a photo hotspot for fans of all generations. Secondly, the Framo-Barkas vehicle meet on Saturday — Frankenberg is the hometown of the former Framo and later Barkas works, which produced cult East German small trucks and passenger cars. Enthusiasts will bring their vehicles to the city center, and in the afternoon, a parade of historic Framo/Barkas models will roll through the city. Thirdly, a mascot meet on Sunday at 2:00 PM — mascots from the region and beyond will gather. A Barkas shuttle bus will bring guests to the festival grounds free of charge.

Mission Sicherheit on Körnerplatz

Körnerplatz will be transformed into a showroom for the blue-light family: police, Bundeswehr, and fire department will present their vehicles, tools, and professions — from patrol cars and fire department recovery vehicles to Bundeswehr vehicles. A great experience, especially for children (often with the opportunity to sit in), and an opportunity for the security authorities to recruit young talent.

Rock Friday, Party Saturday, Classics Sunday — Three Moods

The musical program is divided into three themed evenings: Rock Friday (from 5:00 PM) with regional rock bands and national acts. Party Saturday (from 2:00 PM) with country rock, line dancing performances, children's shows, and party cover bands in the evening. Classics Sunday (from 2:00 PM) with the local brass band, dance groups, breakdance crews, and a more relaxed musical conclusion to the day.

Frankenberg/Sa. — Industrial City in Mittelsachsen

The city of Frankenberg/Sa., with around 14,000 inhabitants, is located in the district of Mittelsachsen, at the transition between the Ore Mountains foothills and the Saxon hill country. It is known for its industrial history — the Framo and Barkas works (motor vehicles) shaped the 20th century. Today, Frankenberg is a vibrant medium-sized town with active cultural and club life, easily accessible via the A4 motorway and the Chemnitz — Hainichen railway line.
