40 Years of Classical Music in the Spa Town

The Kissinger Sommer was founded as a music festival in Bad Kissingen in 1986 – today it is one of Germany's most important classical summer festivals. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 40th anniversary under the motto "Mazel Tov". From June 11 to July 18, the spa town in Lower Franconia will host over 70 concerts and accompanying events featuring the biggest names in classical music: Anne-Sophie Mutter (June 14), Igor Levit (June 24), Cecilia Bartoli with Gluck's "Orfeo" at the festival finale (July 18), the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for the anniversary concert (July 12), and many more.

Mazel Tov – The Motto for 2026

The motto "Mazel Tov" – Yiddish for "good luck" or "may it be good" – refers to the Jewish cultural landscape of Central Europe and the 40th anniversary being celebrated with this gesture. The program spans from grand symphonic concerts to chamber music, solo recitals, song recitals, chanson evenings, and late-night events – over 70 dates at various venues in Bad Kissingen.

The Venues

The main venue is the historic Regentenbau with the Max Littmann Hall, one of Germany's acoustically best concert halls from the Belle Époque era. Additionally, the Wandelhalle, the Erlöserkirche (Church of the Redeemer), and other locations in the spa town will be used. Bad Kissingen has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2021 as part of the "Great Spas of Europe" – the city is a living example of European spa culture of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Bad Kissingen – The Lower Franconian Spa Town

In the 19th century, Bad Kissingen was one of Europe's most famous spa resorts – Bismarck vacationed here, as did Empress Sisi and Tolstoy. Today, the town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a vibrant spa resort with over 20,000 inhabitants, nestled in the Franconian Saale valley on the edge of the Rhön mountains. The Kissinger Sommer transforms the spa town into an international music summit with artists and audiences from all over the world.

Kissinger Sommer — edition 2026

The Kissinger Sommer 2026 celebrates its 40th anniversary from June 11 to July 18 under the motto "Mazel Tov". Over 70 concerts and accompanying events will be performed in the Regentenbau and other venues of the UNESCO World Heritage spa town of Bad Kissingen.

The 2026 anniversary edition of the Kissinger Sommer is scheduled for five weeks – from June 11 to July 18. Over 70 dates offer grand symphonic concerts, chamber music, solo recitals, song recitals, chanson evenings, and late-night events. With the motto "Mazel Tov", the festival consciously positions itself as a cosmopolitan cultural event.

The opening on June 11, the anniversary concert on July 12 with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the spectacular finale on July 18 with Cecilia Bartoli and Gluck's "Orfeo" frame the program.
