A Young Summer Festival with a Clear Vision

Since its founding in 2022, the Burgfestspiele Plau am See has become a firm fixture of the summer in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The venue is the Burghof at Burgplatz 2 in Plau am See, directly by the historic town wall and just a few steps from the harbour on Lake Plau. The stage is specially erected each year for the summer months, and the audience sits under the open sky in the semi-circularly terraced castle courtyard. In case of rain, the audience moves to the covered grandstand.

Original Productions and Guest Performances

Unlike most festivals in the region, the Burgfestspiele Plau focuses on original productions with its own ensemble and a clear family orientation. The motto of the festival organisers: quirky humour, best music, and good vibes. Two major original productions are staged each season – a family musical (Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, Pinocchio in previous years) and a summer revue with live music and a show character. In addition, there are guest performances from cabaret, comedy, and music – artists who interrupt their tours for a stop in Plau.

Plau am See as a Venue

Plau am See is located in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, on the western shore of the large Lake Plau. The town has a well-preserved old town with the St. Marien town church, the castle, and a bascule bridge over the Elde river – a typical Mecklenburg town with strong ties to tourism. The Burgfestspiele deliberately leverage this location: many visitors combine the theatre evening with a day on the lake or an overnight stay in the town.

Programme Highlights 2026

The fifth festival season runs from July 10th to August 15th, 2026. The two original productions are:

  • Peter Pan – The Neverland Musical – Premiere July 10th, further performances July 20th, 23rd, 30th, and August 5th and 13th
  • HITPARADE – The Summer TV Revue – Premiere July 17th, 13 performances until August 15th

In addition, there are three guest performances: Annette Frier with a musical reading, the Leipzig cabaret ensemble Pfeffermühle (“Holiday from the Brain”), and the musical sound project SIDUAN with “Sound of the Elements”.

Family Format and Adult Format in One

The festival combines two very different genres into a single season offering: a family musical starting at 5:30 PM for families with children (approx. 120 minutes including intermission) and an adult programme at 7:30 PM for summer evenings. Those on summer holiday with children in Plau have one appointment – those without children, another. Family tickets and package discounts make the offer affordable.

Burgfestspiele Plau — edition 2026

The 5th season of the Burgfestspiele Plau am See runs from July 10th to August 15th, 2026, in the castle courtyard at Burgplatz 2. Programme highlights: »Peter Pan – The Neverland Musical« (Premiere July 10th, 6 performances), »HITPARADE – The Summer TV Revue« (Premiere July 17th, 13 performances), as well as guest performances by Annette Frier (July 19th), the Leipziger Pfeffermühle (August 2nd), and SIDUAN (August 9th). Tickets from €25.

Season 2026 — Fifth Edition

The fifth season of the Burgfestspiele Plau am See features around 20 performances in the castle courtyard from July 10th to August 15th, 2026. Season motto: »Quirky humour, best music & good vibes«. The organiser is Burgfestspiele Plau am See, and tickets are available via Reservix.

Two original productions define the season: the family musical Peter Pan – The Neverland Musical (directed and choreographed by the in-house ensemble) and the musical summer revue HITPARADE – The Summer TV Revue, which, with a live band, dancing, and nostalgic hits, evokes the great TV shows of the 80s and 90s.
