Stadtfest Drensteinfurt — the Anniversary Year 2026
In 2026, the Münsterland town of Drensteinfurt celebrates its 1175th anniversary — a remarkable date, tracing back to its first documented mention in 851. The highlight of the festivities is the two-day Stadtfest on September 12th and 13th, 2026, which opens the city center to residents and guests from the Münsterland region. The motto: „An Anniversary that Connects“.
Two Days of Program “Full of Encounters”
The Stadtfest aims to be more than just a festive weekend — it's intended as an annual manifesto. Events, exhibitions, readings, and activities are planned throughout 2026. The Stadtfest in September forms the festive, visible culmination:
- Encounter Format — Citizens, clubs, companies, guests come together
- Stage Program — Concerts, dance, performances
- Reception for New Citizens — the town officially welcomes residents who moved in during 2026
- Sunday with Open Shops — Downtown stores open on Sunday
- Activities for All Generations — Family workshops, children's program, seniors' program
The Three Values of the Anniversary
The festivities are based on three programmatic values that the city has formulated for the anniversary:
- Community — Bringing people together
- Diversity — Drawing strength from different perspectives and traditions
- Responsibility — Focus on sustainability and accessibility
Accompanying Program 2026
Anniversary Book
In September 2026, an anniversary book will be published for the Stadtfest, documenting the town's history “from its historical beginnings to the present day” — a lasting legacy for the next generation.
Anniversary Logo
The anniversary logo was designed in 2025 through a public design competition by Drensteinfurt resident Iris Wältermann. It will be featured on official correspondence, event posters, and merchandise.
Citizen Engagement
Clubs and companies could register their own events in 2025/26, apply for sponsorship, or participate as exhibitors at the Stadtfest. Contact for engaged individuals: [email protected].
Drensteinfurt in the Warendorf District
Drensteinfurt is located in the southern Münsterland region, between Hamm and Münster, and belongs to the Warendorf district. With nearly 17,000 inhabitants, the town is a typical medium-sized Münsterland town — characterized by agriculture, medium-sized businesses, and a rich club landscape. The historical first mention in 851 makes Drensteinfurt one of the oldest documented settlements in the region — the 1175th anniversary in 2026 is accordingly a historical highlight.
