Grand town festival around Donzdorf Castle with three stages and the Schlossgartenlauf (Castle Garden Run)
On July 25th and 26th, 2026, the town of Donzdorf in the Göppingen district will celebrate its grand summer festival around the Renaissance castle of the Counts of Rechberg. The Stadtfest is one of the most traditional summer events in the Württemberg Lautertal valley and combines live music, regional cuisine, and a program for the whole family in one of Swabia's most beautiful festival locations.
Three stages are spread around Donzdorf Castle and throughout the town center. Local and national bands perform on the main stage, ranging from cover bands and Swabian dialect acts to acoustic sets by young artists. A second stage features performances by clubs (music clubs, choirs, dance groups), while the third stage — usually oriented as a family stage — presents children's programs, magic shows, and interactive activities. The diversity ensures there's something for every taste.
The sporting highlight is the Schlossgartenlauf on Saturday afternoon. This traditional run leads through the castle gardens and the surrounding fields at the foot of the Swabian Jura. There are routes for all age groups — from the Bambini run for the youngest to school and youth runs, and the main distance for ambitious hobby runners. Registration via the Sportgemeinschaft Donzdorf, moderate entry fee.
Sunday is all about families. In the extensive castle gardens, clubs set up a family and play park: bouncy castles, skill games, craft stations, pony rides, and a face-painting booth turn the castle gardens into a large adventure playground. Parents can relax while the children move from station to station.
Donzdorf, with just under 11,000 inhabitants, is located in the southwestern Göppingen district, at the transition from the Lautertal valley to the Swabian Jura. Donzdorf Castle was built in the 16th century by the Counts of Rechberg and is one of the few surviving Renaissance castles in Swabia. Today, it houses the mayor's office and a small historical collection. The extensive castle gardens with old trees form the natural festival grounds for the Stadtfest. The surrounding region is known for hiking trails on the Jura heights and for the historic mining town of Wäschenbeuren.
The 2026 Stadtfest runs from Saturday afternoon starting at 3 PM and on Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. Highlights: three stages with concerts and club performances, the Schlossgartenlauf on Saturday (registration via sg-donzdorf.de), Frühschoppen on Sunday, and a family and play park in the castle gardens.
Free admission. Schlossgartenlauf: moderate entry fee, registration via sg-donzdorf.de.
By car: A8 exit Mühlhausen, then B466 to Donzdorf (approx. 15 km). By train: nearest station Süßen, bus line to Donzdorf. Designated parking during the festival.

Enjoy the Sunday Frühschoppen under the old trees of the castle gardens — the atmosphere right in front of the Renaissance castle is unique.
