Summer Festival of the Kuchen Garden Friends in the Pferch Allotment Area
Kuchen is a municipality in the Göppingen district, in the upper Filstal valley on the Swabian Jura. With just under 4,500 inhabitants, it is a typical small Swabian industrial and residential community. The place name "Kuchen" — unusual, but has nothing to do with baked goods — derives from the Middle High German "kuchen" ("wood storage area, woodpile"). The Gartenfreunde Kuchen e.V. (Kuchen Garden Friends Association) is the local allotment association, which has its club grounds in the Pferch Allotment Area.
The 2026 Summer Festival will take place on the weekend of July 25th to 26th in the Pferch allotment area. It is a classic Swabian club festival with allotment charm — cozy, village-like, with homemade salads, home-baked cakes, and a personal club atmosphere.
The Gartenfreunde Kuchen e.V. is the local allotment association. They manage the Pferch allotment area — a traditional Swabian-Alemannic allotment area with a classic plot structure, garden sheds, fruit trees, berry bushes, and vegetable patches. Such areas are part of Germany's rural and urban living culture — recreation, self-sufficiency, and neighborly togetherness in one.
The Summer Festival combines typical elements of Swabian club festivals: Opening on Saturday afternoon with a welcome and refreshments. Sausages from a charcoal grill, homemade salads from the club garden (potato, cucumber, tomato salads depending on the season), homemade cakes in the afternoon (apple, berry, crumble), draft beer, lemonade, and spritzers for children. In the late evening, a cozy wind-down by the campfire or under the open sky.
In addition to the Summer Festival, the Kuchen Garden Friends organize other events in the Pferch area: Whitsun Market (May 24, 2026), May Hockete (May 1st, 2026), Father's Day Hockete (May 14, 2026). These gatherings shape the rural club life of the community.
