Kuchen is a small community in the Göppingen district, in the middle Filstal, at the foot of the Swabian Jura — around 5,500 inhabitants. Despite its manageable size, the community maintains an active club life and has been organizing its own open-air festival for years, which communicates its philosophy directly through its name: "Koschd Nix" is Swabian for "costs nothing" — the festival is completely free. The venue is the SBI-Park in Kuchen, a well-suited outdoor area for festivals of this scale.

Two Days of Free Live Music

On the two festival days, Friday, August 7th, and Saturday, August 8th, 2026, various regional bands and acts will perform under the open sky — typically a mix of rock, pop, indie, cover bands, and occasionally electronic sets in the evening. The program will be published shortly before the festival on the community website and social media channels. The atmosphere is relaxed, village-like, with members of all generations — families with children in the early afternoon, teenagers and young adults in the evening.

Club Catering and Park Setting

Since admission is free, the festival is financed through catering. The Kuchen community association — the alliance of local sports clubs, music clubs, and citizens' initiatives — operates stands with bratwurst, fries, sausage salad, Maultaschen, cakes, and drinks (regional beer, wine, non-alcoholic options). The atmosphere in the SBI-Park is relaxed and summery — the stage in the park, beer benches, families on blankets, a mood that embodies the Swabian spirit: simple, good, without pretense.

Social Function in a Small Community

Beyond its musical function, the "Koschd Nix Open Air" plays an important social role: it is the summer highlight in Kuchen's annual calendar, the central meeting point for the community's population and the surrounding Filstal and Alb communities. Those who have moved away from Kuchen often return for the festival. Young adults meet there, older generations stop by, families spend the afternoon in the park.
