Colorful street music festival in the Gifhorn pedestrian zone
The Street Music Festival has been one of the most charming summer events in Gifhorn's city center for years. Unlike classic stage festivals, the concept of street music is taken to the extreme here: Several artists of different genres perform distributed throughout the pedestrian zone – without a classic stage, without large amplifier stacks, mostly unplugged or with minimal amplification.
The musical spectrum is broad: Jazz duos, folk musicians, acoustic guitarists, string ensembles, singer-songwriters, Latin bands, a cappella formations, young indie bands, and seasoned cover artists. The mix ensures that different musical worlds emerge at various corners of the city within minutes.
The musicians perform at several locations spread across the Gifhorn pedestrian zone and adjacent squares. Anyone crossing the city center will automatically pass several performances – and often discover artists who are not usually on their own listening radar. The short performance durations make it easy to switch from one location to another.
The City of Gifhorn organizes the festival in cooperation with the business association and curates the participating artists. With its 9th edition in 2026, the format has established itself as a permanent fixture in the city's event calendar. Promotion via Eventim and regional platforms ensures its visibility.
As with all classic street music, admission is free. Those who wish to thank the artists can throw a few coins or bills into the hat provided – the only remuneration for the performing musicians. This form of direct appreciation is part of the concept.
Mid-July is the height of summer. Cafés have their outdoor seating open, the city center is bustling, families, seniors, and young adults stroll through the pedestrian zone. The Street Music Festival adds an extra layer of sound to this cityscape, transforming a normal Thursday into a festive day.
The exact list of participating artists will be published by the City of Gifhorn in good time before the event. As in previous years, a colorful mix of local and regional musicians is expected.
Those who plan their day carefully can cross the city center multiple times and attend different performances. The short sets allow for a relaxed stroll from one location to another.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the City of Gifhorn in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points:
