Parade and town festival in the organ city — three days of tradition in the Höxter district
The Stadtfest Borgentreich is the most important urban event of the season and traditionally falls on the second weekend in September. In 2026, the festival will exceptionally extend over three days, from Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 20. The venue is the historic city center of Borgentreich – a small town with just under 8,500 inhabitants in the far east of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the border with Hesse and Lower Saxony.
The highlight is the grand parade on Sunday, September 20, 2026. The route, which has been established for years: Assembly in the area of the primary school / festival tent / sports field on Emmerkerbruchstraße, start on Emmerkerbruchstraße, crossing Brunnenstraße towards Lehmtorstraße, continuing to Marktstraße, past the Organ Museum, then Emmerkertorstraße and back to the school center. Several hundred participants from clubs, shooting fraternities, music bands, and carnival societies take part in the parade – a classic image of East Westphalian customs.
Borgentreich bears the epithet "Organ City" – because of the Borgentreich Organ Museum, a unique collection of historical pipe organs in the former collegiate church. The museum is not only a landmark but also an acoustic experience: regular concerts demonstrate the tonal diversity of different organ eras. During the town festival, the parade deliberately passes the museum – a symbolic connection between tradition and cultural identity.
Accompanying the parade, the town festival offers a family program on the festival grounds: carousels, food stalls, live music, children's activities. In parallel, there is a trade exhibition where local companies, craftsmen, and clubs present themselves – a proven format of East Westphalian medium-sized town festivals that connects economy and citizenry.
Borgentreich is located in the Höxter district, one of the most sparsely populated regions of North Rhine-Westphalia. The landscape is characterized by the Warburger Börde in the south and the Eggegebirge in the west – rolling hills, forests, traditional villages. Those who combine the town festival with a weekend trip can visit the Weserbergland, the Corvey Abbey landscape (UNESCO World Heritage), or the fairy-tale town of Bad Karlshafen.
The 2026 edition runs on the second weekend in September according to the established format. Several hundred participants from clubs, shooting fraternities, music bands, and carnival societies will march through Borgentreich's city center on Sunday afternoon.
Participants: Shooting fraternities, carnival societies from Borgentreich and surrounding areas, music clubs, dance groups, clubs from the districts of Natzungen, Manrode, Bühne, Großeneder. The exact order will be communicated by the city of Borgentreich shortly before the parade. Emergency routes must be kept clear – follow instructions from the fire department.
