Pentecost at the Stoneware Factory

Belgern-Schildau is a town formed by a merger in 2013 in the Nordsachsen district (State of Saxony) — Belgern is located directly on the Elbe opposite the district town of Torgau, while Schildau is a few kilometers inland. The region is characterized by rural industry. The Belgern stoneware factory, in particular, was a significant employer in the 19th and 20th centuries: it produced stoneware pipes and ceramic industrial products for all of Germany. After its closure, part of the factory area was preserved and repurposed as the "Das Werk" event bistro — a venue that keeps the industrial history of the place alive. The Pentecost Gathering at the Stoneware Factory will take place there on May 23rd and 24th, 2026, consciously using the unique industrial ambiance as a stage backdrop.

Festival Bistro and Industrial History

"Das Werk" — the event bistro in the former stoneware factory — offers the central location: high ceilings with historic steel beams, industrial brick facades, old kiln systems, and conveyor belts as witnesses to time. A festival program is embedded in this environment, corresponding to the architecture. The Whitsun weekend is traditionally associated with city and folk festivals (Volksfeste) — in Belgern-Schildau, the opportunity is taken to combine the city's industrial heritage with a modern festival format. It starts at 2:00 PM; the program runs until late evening. Admission to the festival grounds is usually free or at moderate prices.

Several Events on Whitsun Weekend

The Pentecost Gathering at the Stoneware Factory is part of a broader Pentecost event calendar in the Belgern-Schildau region and its surroundings. The neighboring Schildberg Festival on May 24th, 2026, also attracts visitors, and the "An der Neumühle" lake resort in Schildau opens its season on June 1st, 2026 — an entire region uses the Whitsun weekend for the season's start. Getting There

Belgern is located directly on the Elbe, about 60 km north of Leipzig. By train from Leipzig Hbf (main station) take RE 13 to Torgau (45 min), then bus or ferry to Belgern. By car, take the A 14 (Leipzig–Dresden), exit Wermsdorf, then B 87 / B 182 to Belgern. From Belgern town center, walk to the stoneware factory.
