Three days of city centre festival in the spa town

The Stadtfest Bad Salzungen is one of the most important summer festivals in southwestern Thuringia. From June 26th to 28th, 2026, the town centre around Markt, Nappenplatz, VR-Bank-Arena, Haunscher Hof, and Burgsee lake will become a sprawling festival backdrop. Admission: free. The festival combines live concerts, electronic party nights, sports events, and a dedicated family programme.

Friday, June 26th — Opening and WELOPA Party Night

The Stadtfest opens on the Marktplatz stage with the official opening and the crowning of the shooting king. On stage, The Living Daylights and True Collins will perform live. In the VR-Bank-Arena at Nappenplatz, the WELOPA — TOMORROW NIGHT starts with DJ duo ANVEE & Fabian Farell and DJ L.U.T. on the main stage — electronic music defines the festival night.

Saturday, June 27th — Sports and Retro Party

Saturday starts with sports with the 2nd WerraEnergie SwimRun at Burgsee lake — a competition of swimming and running. During the day, there will be market activities in the town centre, club stands, and gastronomic offerings. In the evening, Deutschrockmafia and Georg Stengel will rock the stage; in parallel, the WELOPA — 90s and 2000s HOT SUMMER NIGHT will feature music from the "golden" party decades.

Sunday, June 28th — Family Day

Sunday is Family Day: model boat demonstrations at Burgsee lake, Burg-See swimming competition, children's festival in the VR-Bank-Arena from 11 am to 6 pm with magician Jarimo90 and many activities. In addition, there is the Sunday shopping (Open Sunday Shopping) throughout the town centre.

Bad Salzungen in the Wartburgkreis

The spa town of Bad Salzungen on the edge of the Rhön is the district town of Wartburgkreis (state of Thuringia) and has been known for salt production and brine cures for centuries. The central Burgsee lake is the town's scenic landmark — a small lake in the middle of the centre, an ideal setting for model boat demonstrations and SwimRun. Travel via A4/A71 or Bad Salzungen train station (Süd-Thüringen-Bahn).
