Schloss Seehof – Summer Residence of the Bamberg Prince-Bishops
Schloss Seehof in Memmelsdorf was built in the 17th century as the summer residence of the Prince-Bishops of Bamberg. The current complex – a four-wing building with four corner towers, surrounded by an extensive palace park – was expanded under architect Balthasar Neumann and completed in 1729. The orangery from the same construction phase provides an ideal concert setting: high windows, clear architecture, and special acoustics.
Concept of the Spring Serenades
The Frühlingsserenaden bring a concentrated chamber music program to the orangery over several days in late May. The format ranges from classical string quartets and solo recitals with harp or cello-guitar duos to literary-musical readings and world music evenings. This mix not only interprets the castle as a classical concert venue but also consciously appeals to younger listening habits.
Memmelsdorf in the Bamberg District
Memmelsdorf belongs to the Bamberg district (AGS 09471) and is located about 6 km northeast of the World Heritage city of Bamberg. Schloss Seehof itself is a popular destination throughout the year – the orangery and the park are now managed by the Bavarian Palace Department. The Frühlingsserenaden complement the classical concert scene in the region between Bamberg and Bayreuth.
Sponsors and Tickets
The festival is financed by sponsorships and grants. Ticket prices range from 20 to 35 Euros depending on the concert, with reduced tickets available. Advance booking is recommended due to the limited capacity of the orangery.
