Franconian Kerwa near Bamberg

The Gundelsheimer Kirchweih is the traditional village festival of the municipality of Gundelsheim. It is celebrated at the beginning of September and is listed in the official Kirchweih calendar for the city and district of Bamberg – proof of its firm establishment in the region's rich Kirchweih tradition.

Customs and Sociability

As is customary for Franconian Kirchweihen – “Kerwa” in the dialect – the Gundelsheimer Kirchweih combines church tradition with village sociability: a festival church service, festival activities with brass music, and cozy get-togethers characterize the event. The Kirchweih dates back to the consecration of the local church and has been celebrated for generations.
