Traditional Spring Fair in the historic old town of Steinfurt-Burgsteinfurt
When spring finally arrives in the Münsterland, it brings with it the Frühjahrskirmes Steinfurt-Burgsteinfurt. For three days, the historic old town of the twin town Steinfurt, around Burgsteinfurt's market square, transforms into a fairground mile — with the typical mix of carousels, rides, food stalls, and sweets.
The 2026 edition runs from Friday, May 8th to Sunday, May 10th:
(Note: The Spring Kirmes in Burgsteinfurt traditionally takes place on the second Sunday in May, starting the Saturday before and sometimes concluding on the following Monday. The town of Steinfurt confirms the exact opening hours in the week before the event.)
The town of Steinfurt consists of the two formerly independent places Burgsteinfurt and Borghorst. Burgsteinfurt is the historic part with Steinfurt Castle (moated castle, seat of the Princes of Bentheim and Steinfurt), the old town, and the medieval Bagno park — one of Europe's oldest landscape parks. The Spring Kirmes takes place around the market square in the old town, utilizing the picturesque backdrop of half-timbered houses and the Great Church.
Steinfurt is located in the Münsterland, a region northwest of Münster known for its moated castles, cycle paths, and flat, fertile land. With around 35,000 inhabitants, Steinfurt is a typical medium-sized town in the Münsterland. Those arriving for the Spring Kirmes can ideally combine it with a bike tour through the Bagno landscape park or a castle visit.
The 2026 edition of the Spring Kirmes Burgsteinfurt will take place as traditionally on the second Sunday in May (May 10th), starting on the Friday before. The exact opening hours on Saturday and Sunday will be confirmed by the town of Steinfurt in the days before the event.
