One Hundred Years of Football in Gundelsheim

In 1926 — the Weimar Republic was young, football was just beginning to establish itself in small German towns — the first football club was founded in Gundelsheim am Neckar. One hundred years later, in June 2026, the current SG Gundelsheim Football celebrates this anniversary with a four-day festival weekend that involves the entire town. From June 4th to 7th, 2026, the Gundelsheim sports grounds will transform into a festival mile with sports, entertainment, catering, and club history.

Four Days of Programme

The anniversary spans four days — a deliberate decision by the club management to give club members, sponsors, friends of the club from the Heilbronn region, and the public ample time for encounters and joint celebration. The sports grounds open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The programme alternates between sports (matches, tournaments, training demonstrations), entertainment (live music, shows), and social events (club evening, official ceremony, family day).

Sport at the Centre

Football is naturally at the centre — SG Gundelsheim Football will likely play several anniversary matches: against friendly clubs from the Heilbronn area, against former players in old-boys matches, against friendly clubs from nearby Bauland. An anniversary tournament for youth teams and a women's/girls' match will complement the sporting programme. For visitors less interested in the game itself, there will be training demonstrations, goalkeeper shows, and interactive stations — such as crossbar challenges or skill courses.

Entertainment and Club Festival

In addition to sports, there will be a generous entertainment and festival programme: live music with local bands and clubs, a club evening with reminiscences from former players, an official ceremony with representatives from the municipality of Gundelsheim, the Württemberg Football Association (WFV), and guests of honour, a family day with a children's programme, and a closing evening with dancing. Catering will be provided by the club and friendly clubs — Swabian-Franconian cuisine, draft beer, wine from the nearby Württemberg wine-growing region.

Gundelsheim am Neckar

Gundelsheim is a town in the Heilbronn district in Baden-Württemberg, located on the right bank of the Neckar between Bad Wimpfen and Mosbach. The town, with its approximately 7,000 inhabitants, is primarily known for Schloss Horneck, the castle of the Teutonic Order, and for its location on the Neckar Cycle Path. Visitors to the anniversary festival can combine the weekend with a hike along the Neckar riverbank, a visit to Bad Wimpfen (Stauferpfalz, 8 km downstream), or a tour into the Bauland — a perfect early summer weekend in the Württemberg Unterland.
