The market traditionally opens with two symbolically central acts:

• Ecumenical Service on the market square — Catholic and Protestant clergy jointly celebrate a service of thanksgiving for the harvested crops
• Presentation/Blessing of the Harvest Crown — the harvest crown, a traditional decoration made of grain, berries, and flowers, is handed over to the market community in a ceremony
