Getting There

S-Bahn S4 from Frankfurt Hbf to Kronberg (25 min), 10 min walk from the station to the castle (steep climb). By car: A66 or B455, castle parking at the foot of the castle hill.

Opening of the Castle Season

When the castle gates open on the third weekend in March, the new season begins for Kronberg Castle. The Spring Festival is its festive opening – a weekend with historical allusions, family activities, and a crafts market. The organizer is the Kronberg Castle Foundation in the Taunus, a private initiative that has restored the medieval castle and now manages it for the public.

The festive opening traditionally begins with salute shots from the Cronberg Marksmen – a historical reference to the town's marksmen's guild and the castle's warlike past. It is not loud or aggressive, but a ceremonial spectacle with traditional costumes, muzzle-loaders, and a solemn ritual.
