Town and Traditional Festival with Cucumber Market and Punt Parade
Lübbenau is the larger of the two Spreewald towns (alongside Lübben) and the tourist heart of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Spreewald. With its historic punts, numerous waterways, Wendish-German tradition, and famous cucumber production, Lübbenau is one of Brandenburg's distinctive destinations. The Spreewald and Marksmen's Festival combines this cultural identity with a classic Brandenburg town festival format.
Traditionally, the festival takes place on the first weekend in July. In 2026, this is from Friday, July 3 (6 PM-12 AM) to Sunday, July 5 (10 AM-10 PM), with Saturday (10 AM-12 AM) as the highlight day. The town center — from Marktstraße via the Marktplatz to Poststraße — becomes a festival and promenade. Over 10,000 visitors per day are expected — the festival is known regionally and attracts guests from all over the Berlin surrounding area and from Saxony.
The heart of the festival is the Cucumber and Handicraft Market on Poststraße. Here, cucumbers are served according to family recipes from Lübbenau manufacturers — quick pickles, freshly prepared according to recipes that have been passed down familiarly on every farm in the Spreewald. Family recipes over 100 years old are presented. In addition, craftsmen demonstrate traditional Spreewald crafts: wooden clog making, Easter egg painting, pottery. This combination of enjoyment and craftsmanship makes the market unique.
The highlight on Sunday afternoon is the Lübbenau Punt Parade — a parade of lovingly decorated Spreewald punts through the town's canals. The boats are decorated in advance by families, clubs, and citizens, and the parade moves through the waterways to music and applause. A unique Spreewald tradition that you won't find anywhere else in this form. Contact: [email protected], Tel. +49 3542 85-311.
