Schützen Tradition at Whitsun
While other towns indulge in Carnival idleness at Whitsun, the Schützen march in Sennelager: From May 30 to June 1, 2026 — Saturday, Whit Sunday, and Whit Monday — the local Schützen brotherhood celebrates its grand district festival. The Schützenfest Sennelager is part of the official calendar of the Paderborn Schützen- und Heimat-Komitee and is one of the most visible club events in the district.
King's Shooting, Parade, Marquee
As with classic Westphalian Schützenfests, the program is divided into three pillars:
- King's Shooting — Determination of the new Schützen King (and possibly Queen)
- Grand Parade — A procession through Sennelager's main streets with Schützen clubs, brass bands, and floats
- Marquee Program — Three evenings with live music, dancing, proclamation of the king, and coronation ball
Sennelager — District with Bundeswehr Tradition
Sennelager is a northern district of the city of Paderborn in the Paderborn district (North Rhine-Westphalia). Geographically located in the Senne plain, Sennelager is characterized by a strong Bundeswehr and British Armed Forces tradition (British barracks until 2020). This history has shaped district life, and the Schützenfest is one of the events where the district's identity is most intensely expressed annually. The Schützen brotherhood has been preserving the tradition for generations.

The 2026 edition has been confirmed in the official calendar of the Paderborn Schützen- und Heimat-Komitee. The program includes king's shooting, a parade, and a multi-day marquee program over the extended Whitsun weekend. Getting There
Sennelager is easily accessible via the B1 from Paderborn city center. By bus from Paderborn Central Station (lines towards Schloß Neuhaus / Sennelager). By car, parking is available at the festival grounds and in adjacent streets.

Admission to the parade and marquee is free. Food and drinks are subject to charge, individual evening events may require a ticket.
Tip
The grand parade traditionally takes place on Sunday — the best time to see the Schützen clubs in full uniform. Don't miss the coronation ball.
