Traditional Kirchweih in Worms-Weinsheim on the 2nd weekend of September at Kerweplatz
Worms-Weinsheim is a western district with around 2,000 inhabitants, whose name refers to its old wine-growing tradition. The place has a village-like atmosphere with its own parish church, active club life, and a close-knit community. The Kerwe is one of the district's most important identity events.
The Weinsheimer Kulturverein e.V. is the central patron of the district's customs in Worms-Weinsheim. Besides the Kerwe, it organizes other events throughout the year – cultural evenings, concerts, lectures, exhibitions. With the Kerb, the association manages the largest event of the year and ensures the continuation of Rhenish-Hessian customs in Weinsheim.
The Weinsheimer Kerb traditionally takes place on the 2nd weekend of September – a date historically linked to the church consecration date of the Weinsheim parish church, which has not changed for generations. In 2026, this weekend falls on September 11th to 14th.
The festive opening is marked by the raising of the Kerwe tree on Friday evening – a tree decorated with colorful ribbons and bows, which signals the start of the festival days to all Weinsheim residents. The Kerwe couple – a young couple from the district – is presented and represents the Kerb. On Saturday evening, the festival tent attracts with live music and dancing, Sunday features the festive church service and Frühschoppen (morning pint), and Monday the traditional Kerwe burial.
The venue is the Kerweplatz at Weinsheimer Hauptstr. 39 – a central square in the village center that becomes the lively hub for the festival days. The festival tent, beer stands, food stalls, and a small amusement park are set up here. The spatial concentration ensures an intimate festival atmosphere.
The Weinsheimer Kerb is more than a folk festival – it is a social ritual that structures district life. Generations meet here, former Weinsheim residents return, and connections are maintained that last throughout the year.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Weinsheimer Kulturverein in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
