Decentralized village flea market with over 150 registrations in spring
The Bortfeld Village Flea Market follows the decentralized village flea market model, which has become popular in many Lower Saxony villages in recent years. Instead of a central marketplace, stalls are spread across private properties, front gardens, and driveways. Visitors wander through the streets, discovering something new at every house and chatting with residents.
With over 150 registered stalls, the Bortfeld Village Flea Market is one of the largest events of its kind in the region. This high level of participation reflects the activity of the village community and ensures a diverse offering that justifies a whole day of browsing. Those who want to rummage through other families' belongings will find an exceptionally rich selection here.
While the stalls are decentralized throughout the entire village, the fire station at Polterdamm 5 serves as the central meeting point and catering station. Here, visitors can refresh themselves with coffee, cake, sausages, and drinks, and obtain a map with participating addresses if needed. The catering provided by the volunteer fire department is an essential part of the festival and supports the voluntary work of the department.
Behind the village flea market is PUBLU Bortfeld e.V., a local association dedicated to promoting village life. With Jonathan as the central contact person, the association organizes the registration process, the overview map, and coordination with participating households. This volunteer work is the foundation for the market's success.
The village flea market is deliberately held in spring, when many families sort out their winter clothes and make space for the new season. The April date takes advantage of the mild spring weather and offers the first major event of the year for the village community. Thousands of visitors from the greater Wendeburg, Braunschweig, and Peine areas make their way to Bortfeld.
From 10 AM to 5 PM, Bortfeld is one large flea market. Visitors wander through the streets, discover new offerings at every house, and chat with residents.
The fire station at Polterdamm 5 serves as the central meeting point. Refreshments, information, and the overview map with participating addresses are available here.
