Kirchenpingarten — Gateway to the Steinwald

Kirchenpingarten is a small municipality with around 700 inhabitants in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth, located between the Fränkische Schweiz and the Steinwald. Administratively, it belongs to the Weidenberg administrative district. Despite its manageable size, the village maintains a lively festival calendar: theater performances in January, the sports festival and MSC meeting on the first weekend of July, the Gänskopfhüttenkirchweih on the second Sunday in October, and finally the large Allerweltskerwa on the third Sunday in October. The sports festival is one of the most important summer events.

First Weekend of July — Club Sports Festival and MSC Meeting

Every year on the first weekend of July, the Kirchenpingarten sports club and the motorsport club jointly organize a double festival. Competitions and club activities take place on the sports grounds in the town center — from classic football tournaments and popular sports disciplines to family and children's programs. In parallel, the MSC meeting rolls in: motorcycle enthusiasts from the region and beyond meet, present their machines, and enjoy the Franconian summer festival atmosphere. A shared festival tent connects both events.

Club Festival with Tradition

As with many small Upper Franconian village festivals, the appeal lies in its authenticity: the village clubs themselves are the organizers, and the proceeds flow back into club operations. In the festival tent, you can enjoy Franconian snacks — Bratwürste, Schäuferle, Krenfleisch — along with beer from regional breweries, and live music or a brass band in the evening. The festival weekend traditionally begins on Friday evening and runs until Sunday evening. A "real" club sports festival, as has been customary in the Bayreuth region for generations.

Kirchenpingarten's Festival Year

The sports festival on the first weekend of July is part of a regular, well-established festival calendar in the municipality of Kirchenpingarten. In October, the two Kirchweih (church fair) dates follow: the smaller Gänskopfhüttenkirchweih on the second Sunday and the large Allerweltskerwa on the third Sunday in October, which is considered the highlight of the festival year.
