Seven days of sport, cabaret, and music for the 725th city anniversary
Spremberg, the pearl of Lusatia in the Spree-Neiße district, celebrates its 725th city anniversary in 2026. The Sport and Culture Week in July is part of the extensive annual program — the other highlights are the big city festival in May/June and the heritage festival in September. The center of the week: the open-air stage on Wiesengasse, a traditional open-air venue with seating for several hundred guests.
The concept of the Sport and Culture Week combines culture in the evenings and sport during the day. Concerts, cabaret evenings, band performances, and open-stage programs are featured alongside participatory sports, club presentations, and public viewing of the FIFA Football World Cup 2026 — the World Cup final will be broadcast on the large screen of the open-air stage. Admission is free for most program items; individual highlights (cabaret) are subject to a charge.
Spremberg has undergone profound changes in recent years: from a mining region to a region in structural transformation, from an industrial focus in Lusatia to a bridge between tourism, new industries, and Sorbian tradition (Spremberg is located in the Sorbian-German language area). The 725th anniversary is also an act of self-affirmation. The Sport and Culture Week celebrates the commitment of the clubs, which are central to social life in Lusatia.
Anyone visiting Spremberg anyway can combine the festival week with an excursion to the Spremberg Reservoir or Spremberg Castle (with the local history museum). Spremberg is easily accessible via the A15 motorway (Berlin–Forst); the train station is on the Cottbus–Hoyerswerda line.
The Sport and Culture Week lasts for seven days. Highlights include the opening evening on July 17th with free admission and a big stage show, a cabaret evening on July 17th (8:30 PM, admission approx. €33), daily open-stage performances by local bands and clubs, and public viewing of the major event FIFA Football World Cup 2026. During the day: club sports, participatory activities for children, 'Sport in the Park' programs.
The organizer is SKK Spremberg (Sport-Culture-Committee) in cooperation with the Spremberg city administration. Admission to most programs is free; individual premium events require tickets.
