Over 135 vendors, a giant Christmas pyramid, and new ice stock sport lanes – one of Berlin's most visited Christmas markets right in front of Rathaus Spandau
Spandau is the westernmost of Berlin's twelve districts and a city within a city – with its own old town, its own identity, and a history older than that of its sister, Berlin. It is precisely against this backdrop that the Spandauer Weihnachtstraum has established itself: it is not a mere tourist attraction like the 'Weihnachtszauber' at Gendarmenmarkt, but the market for the people of Spandau themselves – and for those who make the pilgrimage from all over western Berlin and Brandenburg.
The market scene is dominated by a walk-in, large Christmas pyramid in the style of Erzgebirge wood art. Around it, on Carl-Schurz-Straße / Werner-Salomon-Platz in front of the neo-Gothic Rathaus Spandau, are more than 135 vendor stalls. The range of goods includes handicrafts (nativity scenes, wooden toys, incense smokers, glass ornaments) and winter fashion, as well as classic mulled wine culinary delights: bratwurst, potato pancakes, candied almonds, crêpes, Feuerzangenbowle, and quark balls.
The 2025 edition introduced ice stock sport lanes – a winter sport with roots in Southern Germany and the Alps, which is increasingly establishing itself in Berlin. For years, the family roller coaster 'Crazy Worm', a classic Ferris wheel offering views of Spandau's old town, and interactive games for children have been part of the inventory. This makes the Spandauer Weihnachtstraum one of the few Berlin Christmas markets that are truly well-thought-out in terms of family entertainment.
The Spandauer Weihnachtstraum opens daily from mid/late November until December 23. The long weekend hours – Fridays and Saturdays until late in the evening – make it a popular after-work destination for commuters from Mitte and Charlottenburg. The organizer is Wollenschlaeger, a company that organizes several large folk and Christmas markets in Berlin and Brandenburg.
A three-minute walk from the Rathaus leads to Spandau's old town with its St. Nicholas Church, the Gothic House, and Charlottenstraße – one of Berlin's oldest shopping streets. The parallel Old Town Christmas Market perfectly complements the Spandauer Weihnachtstraum. Those planning an Advent Saturday can combine both markets for a complete Spandau day in the state of Berlin.
The 2026 edition continues the proven concept: market operations for four weeks, long opening hours, a dense program of activities, a large pyramid as a landmark, rides for children and families, and the ice stock sport offering introduced in 2025. Exact opening details will be communicated by the organizer at the end of October 2026.
The Spandauer Weihnachtstraum is among the five most visited Christmas markets in Berlin and is also the central market for Spandau's Advent life. Its location between the Rathaus and the old town allows for a full Advent day in Spandau, as the nearby Old Town Christmas Market serves as a second focal point.
