One of Berlin's largest and oldest Christmas markets
The old town of Spandau is one of the few areas of Berlin where the medieval city structure is largely preserved – Spandau was an independent city before the merger into Greater Berlin in 1920. Around St. Nicholas' Church, on the market square and on Reformation Square, between half-timbered houses and narrow alleys, the Christmas market unfolds over about four weeks.
Over 250 stalls with arts and crafts, jewelry, Christmas tree decorations, toys, plus an unusually wide culinary range: regional specialties from Brandenburg, mulled wine creations, bratwurst, crêpes, potato pancakes, gingerbread from Nuremberg, candied almonds. For families, there are carousels, a Ferris wheel, and a dense stage program with choirs, brass bands, and small concert formats.
Spandau has three Christmas markets running concurrently in December: the large classic Spandauer Christmas Market in the old town, the new Spandauer Winterland on the former post office site (dates to be announced), and the arts and crafts Christmas market in the Gothic House (with a regional focus). Those taking a day trip to the west of Berlin can visit all three.
