Main summer festival of the Hitzhofen-Oberzell Volunteer Fire Brigade
The Hitzhofen-Oberzell Volunteer Fire Brigade is one of the active brigades in the Eichstätt district and shapes the social life of the small village of Hitzhofen with its events. In the official club calendar 2026, the Sommernachtsfest on August 22nd is listed as the central date, alongside the general meeting in April and the performance test in September — a testament to the festival's importance in club life.
The venue is the fire station of the FFW Hitzhofen-Oberzell. A marquee or covered catering area is set up outdoors, with several beer tables and benches inviting guests to linger. The festival begins in the late afternoon with catering and develops into a musical highlight in the evening — with a live band or DJ depending on the year.
The menu features the usual classics of Bavarian club festivals: sausages from an open grill, half chickens, fish on a stick (Steckerlfisch), pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe), potato salad, fries, accompanied by draft beer from a regional brewery, mixed wine spritzer (Schorle), non-alcoholic drinks, and homemade cakes. Catering is handled entirely by club members; this gives the festival its family character.
Hitzhofen is a municipality in the Eichstätt district of Upper Bavaria, located in the southern Altmühltal, about 10 km north of Eichstätt. With around 1,300 inhabitants, it is one of the smaller municipalities in the region. Oberzell is a district of Hitzhofen; both villages are served by the joint Hitzhofen-Oberzell fire brigade. Its rural location between Eichstätt and Ingolstadt makes the Sommernachtsfest a typical event of Upper Bavarian club culture — away from the tourist crowds, but with vibrant club life.
The 2026 edition follows the classic format. Setup begins in the afternoon, the official festival starts in the late afternoon with catering, and the musical program runs into the night. The FFW Hitzhofen-Oberzell organizes everything themselves — from setup and catering to dismantling on Sunday.
Proceeds go to the club fund and support purchases for the active brigade as well as youth work. Visitors from Eichstätt, Ingolstadt, or the Altmühltal will find a relaxed Saturday evening in a village atmosphere — away from the tourist crowds of the Altmühltal town of Eichstätt.
Program subject to change — the band program and exact start time will be published by the club in the weeks before the event on the club website.
Hitzhofen is located in the Eichstätt district in the southern Altmühltal. By car via the A9 (Munich–Nuremberg, exit Eichstätt) and the St2229 north to Hitzhofen. By train to Eichstätt Stadt or Ingolstadt Nord, then by bus or taxi.

The Sommernachtsfest is a genuine club event — if you're looking for an authentic impression of Upper Bavarian club culture, this is the place to be. Families with children are welcome.
