About Einselthumer Kerwe

The Kerwe Einselthum is traditionally considered the last Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the year in the Donnersbergkreis. The small municipality of Einselthum, in the Göllheim administrative district, thus brings the long Palatinate Kerwe calendar to a close in October, which begins in May in the region and extends through the summer and autumn. Its hallmarks are the Kerwe party on one of the festival evenings and the traditional Kerwe parade on Sunday. Einselthum benefits from its location on the Zellertal, the well-known wine-growing area between Donnersberg and Rheinhessen, and combines Palatinate Kerwe customs with a manageable, family-friendly festival atmosphere.

The Kerwe Einselthum is the annual Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the Palatinate municipality of Einselthum in the Donnersbergkreis and is considered the last Kerwe event in the calendar of the Göllheim administrative district. Einselthum is located in the northern Donnersbergkreis, transitioning into the Zellertal, and is one of the wine-growing areas in the region.

Last Kerwe of the Year

While the Kerwe season in the Donnersbergkreis begins in spring with the first festivals and continues throughout the summer and autumn, the Einselthum Kerwe in October traditionally marks the end. For regional Kerwe enthusiasts, it is therefore also a kind of "season finale" – an occasion to meet up again in good company before the days become noticeably shorter and cooler.

Kerwe Party and Parade

The program follows the classic pattern: opening on Friday evening, Kerwe party on one of the festival evenings with live music or a DJ, a morning pint ('Frühschoppen') on Sunday morning, and the Kerwe parade on Sunday afternoon. The Kerwerede (Kerwe speech) by the Kerweparrer (Kerwe pastor), delivered by one of the Kerweborsch (Kerwe lads), is a humorous review of the village events of the year.

Zellertal and Wine Culture

The proximity to the Zellertal and its wine culture shapes the culinary offerings: Palatinate wines, especially from the surrounding vineyards, complement the usual festival repertoire. Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), and Bratwurst (fried sausage) are served, along with draft beer.

Family Atmosphere

With only a few hundred inhabitants, the Einselthum Kerwe has a very family-friendly, village character. Familiar faces, personal encounters, and the feeling of being "among ourselves" contribute to the special charm of this festival.
