Living-History weekend in an early medieval Slav village
The Slav Days in the Bärnau-Tachov History Park are a two-day Living History event that brings the life of the early medieval Slavs to life. The venue is the reconstructed Slav village with its typical sunken huts, post-and-wattle houses, log houses, and a large hall building – a replica of rural life as it was when the Slavs migrated to the region.
During the Slav Days, guests immerse themselves in the customs, traditions, and cults of their ancestors. Living History actors demonstrate the daily life and craft techniques of the early medieval Slavs – from pottery and iron production to wood tar manufacturing. A special program highlight is the extraordinary sacrificial ceremony, which amazes visitors every year. Guided tours bring the world around the year 1000 AD closer to the visitors.
The Bärnau-Tachov History Park is Germany's largest open-air archaeological museum dedicated to the Middle Ages. It is operated by the support association Via Carolina e.V., which focuses on experimental archaeology and Living History education. In addition to the Slav village, the park includes a medieval village and the Königshof show construction site.
Bärnau is located in the Tirschenreuth district in the Upper Palatinate region of the Free State of Bavaria, directly on the border with the Czech Republic. The name Bärnau-Tachov refers to the cross-border cooperation with the Czech town of Tachov and the shared history of the border region.
