Trail running through the seven summits around Siegen — 25 km, Marathon, Ultra 50 km
Since its premiere in 2021, Seven Summits Siegen has been the flagship of the Siegerland trail running scene and one of the most scenically attractive mountain running competitions in North Rhine-Westphalia. On Saturday, August 22, 2026, the 6th edition will take place — the start and finish is the distinctive location "The SUMMIT Siegen" on Martinshardt / Leimbachstraße in the south of the city.
The course leads over the seven highest elevations around the city of Siegen — the "Seven Summits" are the namesake concept. Depending on the distance, several of these peaks are combined:
Deliberately kept small: a maximum of 250 runners are allowed per distance. This is how Seven Summits differs from mass events like the Rennsteiglauf — the atmosphere remains familiar, and the course is not overcrowded. The registration window opens on February 15, 2026, and closes on August 10, 2026 (or when the participant limit is reached).
The grounds open from 7:00 AM. The first wave starts around 8:00 AM, the last around 10:00 AM — staggered by distance (Ultra first). Aid stations are distributed along the course; paramedics and mountain rescue accompany the race. At the finish line, a finisher party with live music and food trucks awaits — the social highlight of the race day.
In 2026, the event will be held for the first time without the German Alpine Club (DAV) — anlauf GmbH takes over the organization completely. In terms of content, there are no changes to the course or difficulty level; the change is administrative.
With its pronounced undulations (Kalteiche, Pfannenberg, Häuslesberg, among others), the Siegerland offers ideal trail running terrain. Unlike in the Alps, the elevation gain is distributed more "densely" — short, crisp ascents followed by technical descents through beech and spruce forests. Those who know the Siegerland trails know that the elevation gain "costs more" than it appears on paper.
Seven Summits is aimed at experienced trail runners and ambitious hobby runners — the 25 km distance is achievable with a good foundation, while the Marathon and Ultra require serious trail running experience. The event is one of the few DUV-ranking relevant ultra-events in NRW.
The 2026 edition offers three trail running distances with clearly staggered difficulty levels — 25 km for ambitious hobby runners, Marathon as a classic trail format, and Ultra 50 km as the highlight for experienced trail athletes. Organized for the first time without co-organization by the DAV, fully organized by anlauf GmbH.
