Sunday Afternoon at 4 — 45 Years of Free Sunday Concerts
Sonntagnachmittag um 4 is a concert series that sets standards in the German festival landscape: Since 1982, the city of Siegen has programmed free open-air concerts on Sunday afternoons every summer — an institution that kicks off a new season with its 45th year in 2026. The venue is the Zeltarena Oberes Schloss, a covered open-air stage in the historic castle park in Siegen.
17 Concerts Between May and September 2026
From May 10 to September 6, 2026, there will be 17 concerts, every Sunday from 4:00–5:00 PM (exception the last date, Sept 6: 2:00–5:00 PM). The program showcases the musical diversity of the Siegerland region — from Vlurfunk Big Band sound to accordion orchestras, choirs, jazz, and brass music, as well as pop and salon music. A new sound every week, a new audience from Siegen and the surrounding area every week.

Organizers and Concept
The organizer is Kultur Siegen, the cultural department of the city of Siegen. The concept is deliberately accessible: every concert is free, no registration is needed, and it's held outdoors. This has created an intergenerational meeting point — seniors with glasses of sparkling wine, families with picnic blankets, students from the University of Siegen, tourists from the Siegerland and Sauerland regions. The format is part of the larger Kultursommer Siegen, which programs dozens of outdoor events annually.
Siegen and the Siegerland
Siegen is a university city in southern Westphalia with about 102,000 inhabitants — home to the University of Siegen, shaped by the steel and rolling mill industry, nestled in the hilly landscape of the Siegerland. The Obere Schloss on the Siegberg is the city's landmark — a former Nassau-Orange castle, now a museum and event venue. The Zeltarena at the Oberes Schloss is one of Westphalia's most pleasant open-air locations.
