Franconian Kärwa Tradition
Seukendorf is a small municipality in the Fürth district, right in the heart of Franconia's Knoblauchsland (garlic region). This is where the Seukendorf Kirchweih is celebrated — one of the major Kärwas marking the end of the season in the Fürth district. The Franconian Kirchweih (in Franconian dialect, "Kärwa") is more than just a folk festival: it's living tradition, carried on by the young people of the village, the Kärwaburschen und -madli (Kärwa lads and lasses).
The Kirchweih Parade
The highlight is the traditional Kirchweih parade on Sunday afternoon (around 2 PM). Decorated floats, brass bands, and the Kärwa society parade through the village, and the Kärwabaum (Kärwa tree) is danced around. The Kärwa offers entertainment for all ages and is part of a series of traditional village festivals around Fürth.
Conviviality and Festivities
Throughout the festival days, there are festivities with Franconian food and drink, music, and social gatherings. The event is organized by the Kärwa- und Kulturverein Seukendorf e.V., which preserves the tradition and hosts the Kärwa for the entire village community.
Seukendorf in the Knoblauchsland
Seukendorf is located in the fertile Knoblauchsland between Fürth, Nuremberg, and Cadolzburg — a region known for its vegetable farming. The Seukendorf Kärwa is part of the dense Kärwa calendar of the Fürth district and a great opportunity to experience Franconian traditions up close.
