Summer festival on the shores of Lake Tegern with music, fireworks, and alpine panorama
Three municipalities on Lake Tegern in Upper Bavaria celebrate their own lake festival every summer: Rottach-Egern, Tegernsee, and Bad Wiessee. The Seefest in Tegernsee itself is the middle of the three events and traditionally takes place at the end of July at the Rathausplatz (town hall square) with access to the lake promenade.
As the afternoon progresses, the Rathausplatz fills up: Bavarian brass bands provide the musical backdrop, while alphorn players, traditional costume dance groups, and local clubs shape the stage program. A specialty of the Tegernsee lake festivals is the Schifferstechen – a nautical competition between boats, which is only maintained in this traditional form on Lake Tegern.
The highlight of every Tegernsee lake festival is the musically accompanied fireworks display around 10:15 PM. The spectacle can be enjoyed from the Rathausplatz, the lake promenade, and even from boats on the lake — the surrounding alpine panorama with the Wallberg to the south makes the atmosphere unique.
In 2026, the Seefest Tegernsee is subject to special conditions: Due to bridge construction work in the town area (May to November 2026), adjustments may be necessary. The organizers have reserved two alternative dates, July 29th/30th, 2026. Please check the official tourism websites for current information before your arrival.
The Seefest Tegernsee 2026 will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The festival begins at 4:00 PM at the Rathausplatz, with the program extending along the adjacent lake promenade. Ship traffic and regional bus lines will be free for festival guests from 5:00 PM onwards.
As with all Tegernsee lake festivals in 2026, sustainability, regional catering with beer from the Herzogliches Brauhaus Tegernsee, and a continuous family program will be the focus. The highlight remains the musically accompanied fireworks display around 10:15 PM.
Important: Due to bridge construction work in the town area (May–November 2026), two backup dates have been set: July 29 and 30, 2026. Please check the current confirmation of the date before your arrival on tegernsee.com and via servus-tegernsee.de.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and individual family attractions are paid for on-site. Bus and ferry services are free for festival guests from 5:00 PM.
Parking in Tegernsee is very limited on the festival day. The Bayerische Regiobahn (BOB) train from Munich runs directly to Tegernsee station, from where it is just a short walk to the Rathausplatz. From 5:00 PM, regional bus lines and the Tegernsee ferry operate free of charge for festival guests.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and individual attractions are paid for on-site.
Those who want to watch the fireworks in peace should find a spot on the lake promenade in good time or book a trip on one of the boats of the Tegernsee ferry.
