55th edition of the grand Pentecost Volksfest in the Pfaffenhofen district
Schweitenkirchen is a hop-growing community in the southern Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district – the largest contiguous hop-growing area in the world (Hallertau). The Pfingstvolksfest also has a long tradition here: 2026 will see the 55th edition, meaning the festival was first organized in 1971. Generations of Schweitenkirchen residents and guests from the Hallertau have met here at Pentecost – one of the central cultural events of the community.
The venue is the Max-Elfinger-Halle in Schweitenkirchen – a multi-purpose hall that is converted into a festival tent for the Pentecost week, complemented by a festival grounds with rides and stalls. The hall allows for weather-independent celebrations, which is a clear advantage in the changeable Pentecost weather. Inside, beer tent atmosphere, outside, Volksfest atmosphere.
A new feature in 2026: the festival will start on Thursday, May 21st, with a Comedy Night. From 6 PM in the Max-Elfinger-Halle, Alex Profant will perform with his guests Lo Hinterberger, Lukas Boborzi, and Stefan Kurz – a fine Bavarian stand-up mix, organized by festival host Florian Hofer together with the municipality. Admission tickets €12 via EVENTIM or at the town hall.
After the successful premiere in 2025, the Hofer family is once again in charge of the festival operations. A key point for 2026: beer prices and chicken prices remain stable – €11.20 per liter of beer and €10.90 for a chicken, exactly the same prices as in 2025. A remarkable gesture given the general price increases at Bavarian Volksfests.
On Whit Sunday, May 24th, 2026, the Schützenverein Eichenlaub Schweitenkirchen will take over the Max-Elfinger-Halle and celebrate its 75th anniversary – a double event that adds an extra dimension to the Pfingstvolksfest. On Whit Monday, the traditional children's parade of Schweitenkirchen schools and kindergartens to the festival grounds will follow.
From May 21st to 25th, 2026, the municipality of Schweitenkirchen will celebrate the 55th edition of its Pfingstvolksfest. For the first time, the festival will start on Thursday evening – with a Comedy Night, organized by festival host Florian Hofer together with the municipality. Classic festival operations will follow on Friday, Saturday, Whit Sunday, and Whit Monday in and around the Max-Elfinger-Halle.
Good news for guests: beer and chicken prices will remain unchanged in 2026 at the 2025 level – €11.20 per liter of beer, €10.90 for a chicken. A conscious decision by the festival host and the municipality to keep the Volksfest affordable even in economically challenging times.
