About Schwabenbühne Illertissen

The Schwabenbühne Roth- und Illertal has been performing open-air theatre on the idyllic natural stage in the castle gardens of Vöhlinschloss in Illertissen since 1981. Every year between July and September, the non-profit association stages plays for adults as well as for young people and children. A covered grandstand ensures that around 400 visitors stay dry even in summer. The association is financed exclusively by admission fees and donations. With two summer productions per season, the Schwabenbühne is one of the established cultural venues in the district of Neu-Ulm, which is part of Swabia.

The 2026 summer festival of the Schwabenbühne Illertissen features two productions on the natural stage at Vöhlinschloss: »Sindbad the Little Sailor« (directed by Jörg Zenker) from 11 July to 1 August with nine performances, and »Lysistrata« (directed by Stefan Krause, ages 14 and up) from 14 to 29 August with eleven performances. »Sindbad the Little Sailor« (directed by Jörg Zenker) tells the story of a magic lamp with lost jewels that must be recovered to end a drought in Baghdad — the family play runs from 11 July to 1 August 2026 with nine performances. »Lysistrata« (directed by Stefan Krause), an adaptation of the classic Greek comedy about women striking for peace (recommended for ages 14 and up), follows from 14 to 29 August 2026 with eleven performances.
