Bavaria's Lake Constance Wine Festival right on the water
The Winzerfest Nonnenhorn is one of the most beautiful wine festivals on the entire Lake Constance – and the only Bavarian Lake Constance wine festival of significant size. The municipality of Nonnenhorn on the Bavarian north shore has been a winegrowing community for centuries: the Bodensee-Winzer Nonnenhorn cultivate vineyards directly on the slope above the lake, with grape varieties such as Müller-Thurgau, Spätburgunder Weißherbst, and Bodenseeland-Cuvées.
The festival takes place in the lakeside area of Nonnenhorn, with views of Lake Constance, the Swiss mountains, and – in clear weather – the Säntis silhouette. The atmosphere is unique: the sunset over the lake, the lights of the Lake Constance ships, complemented by around 50 wines from local vintners and live brass music. This combination clearly distinguishes the Winzerfest from wine events in Würzburg or Iphofen.
The regional cuisine is the focus: Felchen (whitefish) and other Lake Constance fish, Dinnete (Swabian flatbreads), Käsespätzle (cheese noodles), Seelen (Swabian rolls), burgers, and desserts. Alongside coffee and cake, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available. The food stalls are managed by local restaurateurs and clubs.
Several large brass bands and music clubs perform on both days, supplemented by smaller combos. The program is organized by the Tourist Information Nonnenhorn in coordination with the vintners and local clubs. Admission is free – there is only a small charge per glass of wine and, of course, for the food.
Nonnenhorn is a small municipality with around 1,700 inhabitants in the district of Lindau (Bodensee), in the far west of Bavaria. The municipality is a popular recreational area in summer – lido, boat jetty, wineries, fruit growing (apples, pears). The Winzerfest traditionally falls on a mid-August weekend when the region is full of day-trippers from the Allgäu, Vorarlberg, and Switzerland.
The 2026 edition of the Winzerfest stays true to its established format: two festival days on the lakeshore, one of the few dates in the Bavarian summer when regional viticulture, Lake Constance atmosphere, and brass music come together directly.
Friday evening starts at 5 PM with the opening. Saturday features the full program with daily specials from the vintners, lunch options, and continuous live music. Both evenings end at midnight, and the festival grounds are atmospherically lit with fairy lights.
The culinary focus is regional: Felchen from Lake Constance, Swabian specialties (Dinnete, Spätzle), Lake Constance apple juice, and of course, wine from the local north-shore slope. A special recommendation is the Bodensee Spätburgunder Weißherbst from the Nonnenhorn vintners.
88149 Nonnenhorn am Bodensee. Train: Hourly regional train on the Bavarian Lake Constance shore (line Lindau–Friedrichshafen), Nonnenhorn stop (station right in the town center). Car: A96 (exit Sigmarszell-Lindau), then B31 or the lakeside road. Parking in town is limited; traveling by train is recommended.
Friday 5:00 PM – 12:00 AM; Saturday 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM. Free admission. Consumption based on food and wine menu.
