198 Years of Shooting Tradition in the Sauerland

In 2026, the Schützengesellschaft Hallenberg 1827 will celebrate 199 years of club history – nearing its 200th anniversary. The annual Schützenfest is the most important club event and one of the central traditional events in the southern Sauerland region. The Schützenfest will take place in July 2026 – the exact date is not yet finally confirmed at the time of research (May 2026), but it is expected to be on the 2nd or 3rd weekend of July. In 2025, the festival took place from July 11th to 13th – a similar period is expected for 2026.

Three-Day Program

Saturday

• Short march through the town – the marksmen march in uniform through Hallenberg
• 8:00 PM Concert in the Schützenhalle – usually with a big band or a classical shooting club band, followed by dance music

Sunday

• 2:00 PM Grand Parade – main procession through Hallenberg with marksmen, music bands, court, and the King and Queen
• In the late afternoon King's Dance and Children's Dance in the Schützenhalle – a traditional sequence of dances with the King and Queen and their ladies-in-waiting, followed by a family program
• From 7:30 PM onwards, dance and party music with a festival band

Monday

• 11:00 AM Bird Shooting at the bird shooting range in front of the Schützenhalle – the heart of the festival. Members shoot at a wooden bird; whoever shoots the last piece becomes the new Schützenkönig (shooting king).
• 5:00 PM Grand Parade to escort the new King and Queen – a second procession, now with the newly crowned King at the center
• Evening festivities wind down in the Schützenhalle

Hallenberg in the Sauerland

Hallenberg is a small town in the southern Hochsauerlandkreis district, with around 4,500 inhabitants. A true small town in the Sauerland region with its own medieval town center and vibrant club life. Here, as in the rest of the Sauerland, the shooting club tradition plays a central role in community life. Shooting societies, brotherhoods, and carnival clubs are the three pillars of local identity.

Schützengesellschaft 1827

The Schützengesellschaft Hallenberg 1827 is one of the oldest shooting clubs in the Sauerland. Unlike many other Sauerland shooting clubs, it is a *Gesellschaft* (society, not brotherhood) – a shooting organization structured as a civic club, with its own Schützenhalle as the club center.

Schützenhalle as Festival Center

The Schützenhalle Hallenberg is the center of all activities during the festival: concerts, dancing, catering, and formal events. The bird shooting range is located directly in front of the hall. A compact, self-contained festival infrastructure that is ideal for a three-day Schützenfest.
