Schützenfest Elkhausen-Katzwinkel on Ascension Day

The Schützenfest of the Elkhausen-Katzwinkel marksmen's association is one of the most important club festivals in the Wissen administrative district. The venue is the 'Zum Schützenplatz' grounds in the Elkhausen district of the municipality of Katzwinkel (Sieg).

Ascension Day as Festival Date

The festival date around Ascension Day is a classic tradition in Rhineland-Palatinate's marksmen's association culture. The public holiday offers families, working people, and marksmen the opportunity to spend a full day in the festival atmosphere without having to worry about other commitments. Bird Shooting and Crowning

The focus is on the bird shooting and the subsequent crowning of the new monarchs. The wooden king bird is placed on the high shooting pole; club members take their turns at the shooting stands in the prescribed order to shoot off parts of the bird. Whoever knocks off the last piece becomes the new king or queen of the club family.

Festival Grounds and Catering

The Elkhausen festival grounds are equipped with a marquee or a covered festival hall. Catering is handled by the club – draft beer, bratwurst, fries, and simple festival dishes are offered at club-typical prices. Proceeds go towards club activities and the maintenance of the shooting ranges.
