Gescher — Bell City in the Münsterland

Gescher, with around 17,000 inhabitants in the Borken district, North Rhine-Westphalia, is the Bell City in the Münsterland. The local Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock foundry has been casting bells for churches worldwide since 1690 — a tradition that shapes the town's image. Geographically, Gescher is located in the western Münsterland, just a few kilometers from the Dutch border, between Coesfeld and Stadtlohn. The St. Pankratius parish church stands in the city center and gives the archers' guild its name.

St. Pankratius Archers' Guild — Since 1605

The General Civil Archers Gescher of 1605 (short: St. Pankratius Archers' Guild) are among the oldest shooting clubs in Westphalia. Founded in 1605 as a citizens' militia and self-defense brotherhood, the guild is today an association firmly anchored in the parish community with its own shooting range, an active youth department, and a festive ritual that has grown over centuries. With over 420 years of history, its heritage dates back to the era of the Peace of Westphalia. The annual Schützenfest here is not a folkloric event, but lived tradition.

Three Festive Days at Huesker Parkplatz

In 2026, the festival tent will be located at Huesker Parkplatz, and the archers will muster on Hauskampstraße. Three days of festive program with a classic structure: Friday kick-off with a church service, Saturday bird shooting and coronation, Sunday parade through Gescher. Each day has its own highlight — the Grand Tattoo on Friday evening, the King's Proclamation on Saturday afternoon, the parade on Sunday morning.

Festival Bands 2026

Musically, two bands will provide the atmosphere in the festival tent in 2026: On Friday evening, the party band Limits will play at the festive ball after the Grand Tattoo, and on Saturday evening, Blind Date will take over for the coronation ball. Both bands are known in the Münsterland for their classic cover band programs featuring pop, rock, Schlager, and Karneval hits. On Sunday, a brass band will accompany the morning pint.

Parade on Sunday Morning

The grand parade on Sunday morning will march through Gescher: led by the standard, followed by the corps in uniform, the old and new royal couple, ladies in festive attire, as well as a marching band and a brass orchestra. The route and formation will follow the traditional pattern, starting from Hauskampstraße through the city center back to the festival tent. Afterwards, there will be a morning pint and awards ceremony in the festival tent.
