King's shooting, parade and Whitsun dance evening in the Börde village of Beckendorf
When Whitsun approaches in the Magdeburg Börde, the shooting clubs traditionally open the season of their summer festivals. In Beckendorf, a small district of the town of Oschersleben (Bode) in the Börde district (Saxony-Anhalt), this means: The St. Hubertus Beckendorf/Neindorf shooting club, together with the Beckendorf Volunteer Fire Brigade, invites you to a three-day Schützenfest on the shooting grounds. Whitsun Friday to Whitsun Sunday — a concentrated dose of Börde shooting tradition.
As with every Schützenfest, the emotional center is the proclamation of the new majesties: The King, Vice-King, and Queen will be solemnly announced in the festival tent on Saturday evening. Before that, the king's shooting competition on Saturday afternoon decided the winner — a tradition that has been cultivated for generations in the shooting clubs of the Börde.
Friday opens with a classic coffee afternoon starting at 3 p.m., followed by the first parade in the evening. The previous year's majesties are picked up by horse-drawn carriage and led through the village to the festival grounds in a solemn procession — a sight that vividly illustrates the connection of the Börde villages to their traditions.
On Whitsun Friday, the disco opens in the festival tent from 8 p.m. — the program for the younger generation of club members and festival visitors. On Whitsun Saturday, after the proclamation of the king, the grand dance evening follows, traditionally lasting well past midnight.
A Saturday afternoon is reserved for the children: bouncy castles, games, cake buffet — the children's afternoon starting at 3 p.m. makes the Schützenfest a family-friendly event.
Whitsun Sunday begins with picking up the newly crowned majesties from 8:30 a.m. From 10 a.m., the musical morning pint with regional brass music takes place. The weekend concludes with the official festival closing ceremony in the afternoon.
Beckendorf is a classic Börde village — located amidst extensive farmland, with active club life (shooting club, fire brigade, sports club) and a strong sense of community. Such Schützenfeste are not just a tourist attraction here, but an identity-forming element of village life.
The 2026 edition follows the shooting club's proven Whitsun schedule. Festival days: Friday, May 29, Saturday, May 30, Sunday, May 31, 2026. Detailed times and the final program will be announced in May 2026 by the shooting club and the town of Oschersleben.
