Ten days of art and culture at the castle with a focus on Greece
The annual Europawoche (Europe Week) of the German state of Hesse is an occasion for events that promote the European idea in culture, education, and encounters. In Hungen, Wetterau, the Freundeskreis Schloss Hungen e.V. has been taking on this task for years – and organizes its own Europawoche in the historic castle ensemble, the former residence of the Counts of Solms-Lich-Hohensolms.
From May 15th to 24th, 2026, Europawoche will focus on Greece. Ten days of programming with exhibitions, lectures, readings, and concerts will illuminate Greek culture in its historical depth and contemporary diversity. The venue is the entire castle ensemble, with the stable (Pferdestall) as the central exhibition space and the Blue Salon for concerts.
The week opens on Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at 4:00 PM with the vernissage of the exhibition "Assemblage – Cultural Worlds in Collages" by artist Christa Charlotte Knoll in the stable. The exhibition will run until May 31st. On the same evening at 7:00 PM, a concert by the Cantarelli Ensemble with piano and flute will follow in the Blue Salon.
Over the ten days, visitors can expect a varied program: exhibitions on Greek art and culture (stable), lectures on Greek history and the present day, readings from Greek literature, and concerts combining Greek and Mediterranean music with classical ensembles. The exact individual dates will be published on the website of the Friends of Hungen Castle.
Hungen Castle is the former residence of the Counts of Solms-Lich-Hohensolms. The ensemble of Renaissance and Baroque buildings, including the stable, castle garden, and representative halls, is a gem among Wetterau's castle heritage and, following the restoration offensive of recent years, is once again a vibrant cultural venue.
From May 15th to 24th, 2026, Hungen Castle will become the stage for the ten-day Europawoche with a focus on Greece.
