Schützenfest ASG Legden — Four-day Münsterland Tradition

Visiting the western Münsterland and want to see what a traditional Schützenfest in a small town looks like? The Allgemeine Schützengesellschaft Legden (ASG) offers the full program. Four days of festival tent, parades, king's shooting, and Frühschoppen — from July 14th to 17th, 2026, Legden transforms into a classic Westphalian Schützenfest location.

The ASG Legden

The Allgemeine Schützengesellschaft Legden e.V. is one of the traditional shooting clubs in the Borken district. The club unites several shooting companies, its own dance band, and an active women's section. The annual Schützenfest is the social highlight of the club's year and one of Legden's most important civic festivals.

Program

The four-day format is classically Westphalian:

• Thursday, July 14, 2026 — Opening evening, festival tent program, first dance band
• Friday, July 15, 2026 — Day program with shooting competitions, evening festival tent program
• Saturday, July 16, 2026 — Main festival day with a parade through the town, followed by the grand King's Ball in the festival tent
• Sunday, July 17, 2026 — Frühschoppen, family day, winding down

King's Ball as the Highlight

The King's Ball on Saturday evening is the social highlight of the weekend — reception of the reigning King with his Queen and his court, a large dance band, waltzes, and sing-along music until late at night. Advance tickets are available directly from ASG Legden via the club's website.

Parade

The parade on Saturday afternoon winds through Legden's town center — the shooting clubs in uniform, dance bands, the royal carriage procession, and guest clubs from neighboring towns. The route is lined with spectators, and many residents decorate their windows.

Legden and the Borken District

Legden is a municipality in the Borken district, in the western Münsterland region of North Rhine-Westphalia, with around 7,200 inhabitants. The municipality is located near the Dutch border, between Ahaus, Coesfeld, and Vreden. Legden is accessible via the B70 federal road and the Coesfeld–Gronau railway line. The ASG Schützenfest, along with the Erntedankfest (Harvest Festival) and the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market), is the most important civic festival of the year.
