District and cultural festival on the Spree and Kaisersteg — connecting Ober- and Niederschöneweide
Schöneweide is one of Berlin's most promising districts undergoing transformation: for decades an industrial site for AEG and other major companies, today it is home to the University of Applied Sciences for Technology and Economics (HTW), artists' studios, and new cultural initiatives. Divided by the Spree, the Kaisersteg — a 140-meter-long cable-stayed bridge — has connected Niederschöneweide with Oberschöneweide since 2007. The Bridge Festival makes this connection its program.
Since 2022, the organizer has been the SchöneVibes Kollektiv e. V., a young association of artists, cultural creators, and initiatives from Schöneweide. In 2025, the Brückenfest was held under the motto “Diversity connects”; a fifth edition is planned for Saturday, July 4, 2026. The festival center is located at the Kaisersteg square; further program points are spread across the industrial area and cultural venues such as Kranbahn, Alte Kita, and Novilla.
The program spans a wide range: on the main stage at Kaisersteg-Platz, concerts from the Berlin underground and theater performances alternate, along with puppet shows, performances, and DJ sets. Open-air cinema, an arts and crafts market, and a swap and flea market fill the daytime break. Industrial culture tours from the Berliner Zentrum Industriekultur (bzi) bring the history of the AEG works and Schöneweide's industry back to consciousness.
A regular ritual is a swimming demonstration by the citizens' initiative “Ufer Frei,” which campaigns for more access to the Spree in the district: swimmers will move from the HTW to the Kaisersteg starting at noon, ending in the stage show. After the main stage closes at 10 p.m., the night program continues in the Alte Kita in Niederschöneweide — as a small club segment of the festival.
Schöneweide belongs to the Treptow-Köpenick district in the state of Berlin (city-state). Reachable from the main train station by S-Bahn in about 25 minutes (S8, S9, S45, S46, S47, S85 to Schöneweide). Free admission to the entire festival — donations for the SchöneVibes Kollektiv are welcome.
The Schöneweider Brückenfest 2026 will once again bring together both banks of Schöneweide around the Kaisersteg for a district and cultural festival on July 4th. A main stage, several smaller performance venues in industrial and cultural buildings, a flea market with crafts, and industrial culture tours — the format has been reliably repeated since 2022 and makes Schöneweide the most visible creative address in southeastern Berlin for one summer Saturday. The exact program will be published in advance on schoenevibes.de.
