Open-air cinema with gourmet program in the Oberpfalz — six summer evenings on Schönberg
The Schlemmerkino am Schönberg is more than just an open-air cinema: it combines film culture with gastronomy to create its own unique format. While other open-air cinemas focus solely on film screenings, the Schlemmerkino offers a gastronomic pre-show every evening starting at 6 PM. Appetizer, main course, drinks at Colella's Catering — and around 8:30 PM, the film begins under the starry sky.
The Schönberg in Grafenwöhr is a viewpoint hill on the edge of the Oberpfalz town, offering a natural amphitheater-like topography for the open-air stage. Films are projected onto a large screen, and spectators sit on benches in a semi-circle. In case of rain, the venue is quickly moved to the Stadthalle Grafenwöhr — the concept remains the same, only the backdrop changes.
Six film evenings from August 18 to 23, 2026 — a different film each evening. The program focuses on current German films, often with a Bavarian touch. The highlight of the 2026 program is the new Eberhofer crime film »Steckerlfischfiasko« — the continuation of the successful film series based on the novels by Rita Falk. Other films from the current German and international program complete the lineup.
Grafenwöhr in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district is primarily known for its US Army training area, which has existed since 1907 and is one of the largest in Europe. However, the town also maintains a vibrant cultural program: alongside the Volksfest and the Christkindlmarkt, the Schlemmerkino am Schönberg is one of the central summer highlights.
Behind the Schlemmerkino is a proven Oberpfalz trio: the city of Grafenwöhr as the sponsor, the Neue-Welt-Kino Weiden as the film distributor and cinema professional, and Colella's Catering for the gastronomy. This division of labor makes the format efficient and ensures high quality in both areas.
The 2026 edition of the Schlemmerkino am Schönberg includes six film evenings from August 18 to 23. The event returns after a one-year hiatus and is organized by the proven trio of the City of Grafenwöhr, Neue-Welt-Kino Weiden, and Colella's Catering.
Each evening features a different film. The gastronomic pre-show begins at 6 PM, and the film starts after dark around 8:30 PM. The 2026 program has a clear Bavarian focus with the new Eberhofer crime film »Steckerlfischfiasko« as the highlight.
