Craft market and Advent magic on the Friday before the 2nd Advent in the historic Black Forest half-timbered old town
Schiltach is a picture-book Black Forest town in the Rottweil district (AGS 08325): a triangular market square, dense half-timbered scenery, narrow alleys, confluence of the Kinzig and Schiltach rivers in a valley bottleneck. It is precisely this backdrop that the town uses on the Friday before the 2nd Advent weekend for an extraordinary market double: Andreasmarkt + Advent market on the same day, in the same urban space.
The Andreasmarkt is Schiltach's historic craft market, traditionally held around St. Andrew's Day (November 30). In 2026, it falls on Friday, December 4. The venue is Schramberger Straße and the adjacent city center. On the program: textiles, household goods, basketry, leather goods, sweets, snacks. Free admission. Local clubs provide catering.
From 3 p.m., the Advent stalls take over the historic old town: arts and crafts, mulled wine, children's punch, bratwurst, crêpes, waffles, glass decorations, nativity figures. Light installations and candlelight illuminate the half-timbered facades — the unique Schiltach backdrop has its strongest effect at dusk. Until 9 p.m., you can stroll through the alleys, listen to live music, the brass band, and Advent carols.
The town itself is part of the experience. Schiltach is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns in Germany — over 50 preserved half-timbered houses from the 16th to 19th centuries, the triangular market square with the town hall and market fountain, narrow winding alleys. In Advent, all of this looks like a stage set. Tip: Arrive before 4:30 p.m. to experience the interplay of daylight, dusk, and illumination.
You can experience both markets as a continuous day trip: the Andreasmarkt on Schramberger Straße in the afternoon, then experience the sunset in the old town, followed by Schiltach Advent with mulled wine in hand. Both markets complement each other, the offerings hardly overlap — the Andreasmarkt is more practical (household goods, textiles), the Advent market is more about atmosphere and gifts.
The combination of Andreasmarkt and Schiltach Advent on December 4, 2026, transforms the old town from a morning craft market into an atmospheric evening market of lights. An ideal day trip for families and Black Forest lovers.
Free admission.
By car via B 294 between Wolfach and Schramberg, Schiltach is located at the intersection of B 294/B 462. By train: Black Forest Railway connection in Hausach (approx. 7 km), then bus. Parking in the large parking lots on the outskirts, then walk to the old town (5 minutes).
