Holidays at home — Beach feeling on the Saale
The Saalestrand Rudolstadt is an urban summer festival that fills an entire season. On the Bleichwiese festival grounds, directly on the banks of the Saale, around 60 tons of sand are poured into the landscape annually, transforming the meadow into a beach bar with loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas, and an open-air stage. The motto "Holidays at home" appeals to everyone who doesn't want to travel far but is looking for the summer feeling of the beach. The 2026 season runs from May 14 (Ascension Day) to August 9 — almost three months during which Rudolstadt has its own summer meeting point.
Free admission — Events too
The concept thrives on a low entry threshold: admission is free, as are all evening events with live music. You only pay for food and drinks consumed — and the selection is wide: burgers, ribs, nachos, fries, crêpes, and ice cream are on the menu, along with soft drinks, draft beer, cocktails, and coffee. A large screen shows all major European football competitions during the summer.
Evening program: Live music from Wednesday to Sunday
The heart of the event is the evening program. Throughout the season, there are live concerts and DJ sets in various genres: electronic music (Deep House, 80s, Drum'n'Bass), funk, pop, singer-songwriter, world music, and Cuban sets grace the stage. In 2026, a "Deep House/80s Night" on June 19 and a "Cuban Night" on June 20 are announced — as examples of the curated diversity.
Families and sports fans welcome
The program caters to all target groups: children find play areas and small sandboxes, families enjoy the quieter afternoons, and sports fans gather in front of the big screen for Champions League, Europa League, and Bundesliga games. Weekends are family time, while evenings tend to attract students and working professionals.
Opening hours and atmosphere
Open from Wednesday to Sunday — closed Mon/Tue (except Whit Monday). The opening hours are generous: Wednesday and Thursday 3:00 PM — 9:00 PM (minimum), Friday 3:00 PM — 10:00 PM (minimum), Saturday 1:00 PM — 10:00 PM, Sunday 12:00 PM — 9:00 PM. Times often extend for live concerts. The atmosphere is clearly urban-relax: light background music, the smell of grilled burgers in the air, Saale river wind in the sun sails.
Rudolstadt: A vibrant summer city
Rudolstadt is located in the state of Thuringia, in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district, on the Saale river. In early July — right in the middle of the season — the major Rudolstadt-Festival also takes place: visitors to Saalestrand can experience Germany's largest folk, roots, and world music festival at the same time.
