Schleswig Cathedral: A 700-Year-Old Landmark
St. Petri Cathedral in Schleswig, often simply called Schleswig Cathedral, is one of Northern Germany's most important brick basilicas. Built between the 12th and 15th centuries, it was the seat of bishops and is now considered a landmark of the Schlei region. The famous Bordesholm Altar by sculptor Hans Brüggemann (1521) is one of the highlights of medieval wood carving in Europe.
Schleswig: Cultural Center on the Schlei
Schleswig, with around 24,000 inhabitants, is located in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, at the western end of the Schlei fjord. The city was once the seat of the Dukes of Schleswig, houses the famous Gottorf Castle State Museums, and is now the administrative and cultural center of the region between Eckernförde Bay and the Danish border.
The Kiel Naval Music Corps
The Kiel Naval Music Corps is one of the four naval music corps of the German Navy and has been stationed in Kiel since 1956. The musicians are professionally trained soldiers and perform numerous concerts annually in Northern Germany and internationally. The current director is Kapitänleutnant Inga Hilsberg. The Advent concert in Schleswig Cathedral is one of the corps' most traditional engagements.
Benefit Concert for Children and Youth
The event is organized by the Rotary Club Schleswig in cooperation with the Evangelical Lutheran Parish of Schleswig. The net proceeds from the concert will go entirely to the children's and youth work of the Schleswig parish — from confirmation classes and youth services to holiday programs.
